Three Temples in Chiang Rai
Just East of Chiang Rai is a beautiful mountain range that overlooks the Meekong River. Some of the most popular backpack trekking in the world can be found there. Chiang Rai is also know for the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun) which is something you will want to visit when you are there. The Thailand Adventure Network recommends visiting Chiang Rai over going to Chiang Mai. Unfortunately, Chiang Mai is actually the second largest city in Thailand and it doesn’t really live up to the expectations. It is actually not in the mountains, but instead very close to them. You still have to take a ride up into the mountains. If you are planning to stay in the city, but love the mountain views you will probably be very disappointed. Check out Chiang Rai first and leave Chiang Mai for your second visit.
